Racing WA

Who will join the stars in the WA Racing Hall of Fame in 2024?

8 January 2024

New names will be added to the roll call of all-time greats alongside Damien Oliver, Village Kid, Miata and the Lee Steeres this year.

Submissions are now open for the West Australian Racing Hall of Fame across the thoroughbred, harness and greyhound codes.

Chief Racing Officer David Hunter said champion horses, greyhounds, trainers, drivers, jockeys and associates could all be considered.

“All three racing codes in WA have enthusiastic supporters, an important place in the community and make a strong contribution to Australian sporting life,” David said.

“The West Australian Racing Hall of Fame is where we honour the best of the best.

“It’s not just about achieving an impressive number of wins but also being widely respected, making a vital contribution to the racing world and inspiring a new generation to reach their potential.”

Researchers will review the submissions and compile a short list for consideration by the hall of fame selection panels.

The hall of fame was introduced in 2007 but Western Australia has a racing history dating back to 1833 so Racing WA is seeking submissions across all periods from early to modern times.

“This year we are delighted to consider new candidates for induction in the WA Racing Hall of Fame,” David said.

“This is the crowning achievement of a sporting career and recognition of an outstanding commitment to racing.”
