Progressive pacer Soho Dow Jones gets a golden opportunity to score his biggest win in WA when he lines up in tomorrow night’s Pure Steel (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
The four-year-old was able to jump to the front and lead throughout in a standing start event at Gloucester Park last week, beating Beat The Bank and Otis.
The gelding has drawn barrier one for tomorrow night’s $30,000 event and trainer Kim Prentice said he expected his charge to make the most of the draw.
“I was going to race him in a fortnight in another stand,” Prentice told TABradio.
“When I saw this race, I thought if he draws a gate then he should be hard to beat.
“He’s come up with the ace so he should be very hard to beat.
“They’d have to be very quick to cross him.”
Goodfellaz, who has drawn barrier five, looms as the main danger to Soho Dow Jones, while Cheer The Major could also play a part from barrier 10.
Prentice said he hoped Soho Dow Jones could progress to feature four-year-old races later this year and could be a danger in them off a soft run.
While Prentice has got the favourite in the feature event on the Gloucester Park card, he will be at Wagin to oversee his three runners in that meeting.
Group 1 placegetter Crowd Control is the headline act on the Wagin card, where he will line up in the Rogan Josh Was A Lamb Curry Pace (1776m).
The three-year-old finished 11m behind Juggernaut when first-up at Gloucester Park last week.
It was only the gelding’s second start since his unplaced effort in last year’s Golden Slipper.
Crowd Control has drawn barrier two in the three-year-old event and Prentice said he was confident he could score his first win of the campaign.
“It’s a nice three-year-old race, but I’d be very disappointed if he didn’t come home with the money,” he said.
“I do rate him as a very nice horse.
“We had a few problems with him, but we’ve got them all sorted now.
“He should jump on the bunny and be very hard to run over.”
Prentice said he would aim Crowd Control at feature three-year-old races, headlined by the WA Derby, later this year.
