Harness stewards’ inquiry – Trainer Ms Tonia Stampalia (Chaco Eagle)

5 June 2025

Racing WA stewards today commenced the inquiry in relation to the reports from the Chem Centre (Perth) and New Zealand Racing Laboratory Services that clozapine has been detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from Chaco Eagle prior to it racing in and finishing 7th in Race 2 at Gloucester Park on 14 February 2025.

Clozapine is a human medication used in the treatment of mental health conditions.

At the inquiry evidence was heard from Dr. N Beckett (Chem Centre), Dr. J Medd (RWWA Head of Veterinary Services), Mr P. Criddle (RWWA Investigator) and trainer Ms T. Stampalia.

The matter was subsequently adjourned by Stewards, with a date yet to be determined, to enable further investigations to be conducted in relation to the evidence and submissions that had been presented.
