Overview

Belmont Park Racecourse is Perth’s premier winter racing venue, operating from May to October. Nestled on the picturesque Burswood Peninsula along the banks of the Swan River, it is renowned for its excellent drainage system, making it one of the best wet weather tracks in Australia and ensuring races proceed regardless of the weather.

The racecourse features a circumference of 1,699 meters with a 333-meter straight, offering ample opportunities for horses and riders. It includes sweeping turns and starting chutes for races over 1,000m, 1,400m, and 1,650m.

Spectators enjoy fully enclosed facilities with stunning views of the river and city skyline, located adjacent to Optus Stadium within Perth’s sporting precinct.

Historically, Belmont Park hosted its first harness race meeting in 1910 and served as Perth’s first regular landing area for aeroplanes in the early 20th century. Today, it remains a central hub for horse racing in Western Australia, featuring notable races such as the Belmont Sprint, Hyperion Stakes, and Strickland Stakes. Other feature events include the popular Pink Ladies theme on Belmont Oaks Day, as well as numerous AFL sporting games where spectators can enjoy a day at the races beforehand.
