Overview
Broome Racecourse, operated by the Broome Turf Club, is a unique and picturesque racing venue
carved out of bushland at Gantheaume Point, just a stone’s throw from the
world-famous Cable Beach. Located over 2200 kilometres north of Perth, this
idyllic location on the Broome peninsula is surrounded by the Indian Ocean and
benefits from constant cool breezes, providing a welcome relief in the hot and
humid climate of the Kimberley.
Broome Racecourse is
consistently ranked as one of Australia’s most stunning racetracks due to its
breathtaking location and excellent facilities. The annual Broome Cup week,
held in August, is the highlight of the racing calendar and attracts the most visitors
through Broome Airport than any other time of year. The carnival kicks off with
Ladies Day on Tuesday and culminates with the Broome Cup on Saturday. Between
these two major race days, the town buzzes with an array of entertainment and
events, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy the glorious sunshine and warm
hospitality.
The balmy,
tropical climate offers the perfect escape from the cold of winter, with
interstate visitors also taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the
idyllic surrounds.
The racecourse features a
unique oil-based dirt track which is darker in appearance to other tracks in
surrounding regions in the north of Western Australia.
The Broome Turf Club has evolved from its humble beginnings into one of the most progressive race clubs in Australia, while still retaining its charming, rustic roots. A day at the Broome races is an unforgettable experience, combining competitive racing with the natural beauty and laid-back vibe of Broome.
