Toodyay Race Club
Overview
Nestled within the rolling hills of the beautiful Avon Valley, Toodyay Racecourse offers picturesque views of the Western Australian countryside, providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Located just an hour’s drive from the Perth metropolitan area, the racecourse is one of the region’s most unique landmarks.
Founded in 1865, the Toodyay Race Club hosts an annual picnic race meeting in September, highlighted by the Toodyay Cup. This popular event is one of the few remaining picnic-style meetings, allowing racegoers to experience the old-world charm of a historic setting amidst a stunning backdrop of hills and trees.
The track has undergone several changes over the years, including the relocation of the grandstand and straight to the western side of the course in 1949. Racing resumed in 1997 after a seven-year hiatus, and in 2022, the race meeting was temporarily moved to Belmont while the track underwent improvements. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Toodyay Race Club committee, racing will return to Toodyay in 2024 after several years of absence.
Toodyay itself is a charming town rich in history and natural beauty. Known for its heritage buildings, vibrant community events, and scenic landscapes, Toodyay offers visitors a delightful blend of past and present. Whether exploring the historic streets, enjoying local cuisine, or participating in community festivals, Toodyay provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere that complements the unique experience of the Toodyay Racecourse.
