Fremantle Cup Field Announced

10 January 2023

Star five-year-old’s Mighty Ronaldo and Himself have forced their way into Friday’s Retravision-Fremantle Cup (2536m) field.

The Justin Prentice-trained Mighty Ronaldo was ranked 17th going into last week’s $100,000 event, but an encouraging effort behind Diego and Gambit saw him climb inside the top 12.

Trainers Greg and Skye Bond received mixed news at they look to win the $300,000 feature for a second straight year.

The Bond team paid the late nomination for Golden Nugget winner Himself yesterday and was able to secure his place in the Fremantle Cup.

It comes as recent Free-For-All winner Ideal Agent had to be withdrawn from the event due to a leg injury.

Greg Bond told The Trots WA he hoped Ideal Agent would benefit from another campaign in open class racing and develop into a major Cups contender in 2024.

Ideal Agent was ranked 11th ahead of the unveiling of the final field.

To Fast To Serious also had to be withdrawn from the Fremantle Cup, after he was unable to get a flight back to Perth from his recent Inter Dominion campaign.

Trainer Dylan Egerton-Green told TABradio’s One Out One Back the gelding would likely trial later this week and hoped to get him back to Perth for the WA Pacing Cup on January 27.

The barrier draw for the Retravision-Fremantle Cup will take place at Gloucester Park this afternoon.
