Cyclone Seroja Spoils the Fun at Kellerberrin

14 April 2021

Cyclone Seroja put an early end to the Trayning Cup meeting at Kellerberrin, but not before the club was able to work their way through the first six races on the card.

Cattenham Lass continued her winning Central Wheatbelt form by taking out the opener at Kellerberrin on Sunday. Trained by Kyle Anderson and driven by Kyle Harper, the $2.00 favourite led all the way from barrier four, in a mile rate of 1:59:2, staying off her rivals by 10.7m. The three-year-old filly by Auckland Reactor, out of Daytime Diva was bred in 2017 by Kyle Anderson and his dad (who has since sadly passed away) and has claimed her second career win just two weeks since her maiden victory.

“She (Cattenham Lass) is the last horse Dad and I bred. The plan is to continue taking her to Kellerberrin, win, lose or draw, as the program for her HWOE and the fact that there’s a mile race for her every week suits her to a tee.” Anderson said.

“If she happens to win pacer of the year up there, that would be icing on the cake.” He said.

Glowing Report worked her way from last to first to claim a narrow victory in the second, driven by Deni Roberts and owned and trained by John Milentis. Sundays win at Kellerberrin saw the Wooroloo based gelding break a three-and-a-half-year spell between victories, his last win being in October 2017.

Matthew Scott and Chris Voak teamed up with Here Comes Sharkie in the third, with the seven-year-old gelding claiming his second win this season, after settling in the breeze for the entire race. Voaks current driving statistics have him sitting at 29% for wins and 29% for placings for Kellerberrin.

Hillview Bondi gave Ryan Bell and Mitchell Miller something to smile about in race four, with the west bred three-year-old losing his maiden status at just start number three for the Bendotti family. Starting at $11.70, the gelding pulled off the inside with around 700m to go to give chase and run down the favourite, winning by a neck.

Hayden Reeves made the trip up to Kellerberrin, with favourite punters being rewarded when Krafty saluted in the fifth, piloted by Bailey McDonough, giving his owners their second win in 15 starts. The three-year-old led from start to stop from barrier one, clocking a time of 2:02:5 in the Yelbini pace.

Star Of The Class gave the leaders a head start in race 6, with the consistent pacer settling last early and leaving her run for the last lap. Trained by Peter Anderson and driven by Donald Harper, the mare was driven to perfection, giving connections their ninth win with the four-year-old in 38 starts and taking the horses earnings to just over $40,000. Bred and owned by Allwood Stud, she currently shares the lead for leading club pacer at the Central Wheatbelt with Cattenham Lass.

Unfortunately, the Stewards had to make the decision to call of the meeting just prior to the Trayning Cup, with roadblocks being put in place, time was of the essence and all trainers had to make a move before they could run the two final races on the card. Racing in the Central Wheatbelt resumes on Sunday April 25th.
