In this year’s budget distribution RWWA allocated the harness racing code $460,000 for marketing initiatives.
The funding for marketing will be used to:
- Build harness racings’ profile within the community. Implement a grants process to assist clubs with funding on-course promotions and activities with the intention of driving attendance at regional events
- Promote and Recognise Ownership Conduct ownership promotions and initiatives focussed on retaining and recognising existing owners as well as new owners to the industry
- Participant Education Make available to licensed participants small business education seminars on topics ranging from accounting, marketing and welfare
- Market Research Conduct research to understand the size and profile of the harness racing target market
- Extend Social Media coverage Re-introduce Twitter pre-race interviews at Pinjarra, Bunbury, Northam and Narrogin Build Trainers drivers online presence
Superannuation
RWWA has budgeted to contribute $160,000 to drivers’ superannuation payments in the 2022 financial year.
Stake Money
To ensure the wellbeing of the code’s race horses, RWWA has determined 1% of total advertised prizemoney on all harness races will be allocated to animal welfare initiatives, from 1 August 2021.
The 1% equates to $250,000 and, with no increase in stakes funding, a decision has been made to deduct the $250,000 off the top of the total stakes distribution instead of deducting 1% from the winning owners of each race.
Further to that decision, it has been determined to reallocate total stakemoney and reduce the number of races run to increase stakes at the regional and country tracks. The cost of doing this is a reduction in the number of metropolitan staked races run at Gloucester Park each Friday. WA will move from a 10 race metropolitan staked programme to a 9 race metropolitan staked programme.
This will allow stakes to be increased at Pinjarra and the Gloucester Park midweek meetings from $7,500 to $8,500 per race. These race meetings will continue to host 9 races at each race meeting.
Stakes will increase at the Provincial 2 and Country meetings but the number of races run will be restricted to 7 races; there will be 6 races staked at $8,500 each and one race at $5,000.
Stakes will increase from $4,500 per race to $5,000 per race at all community race tracks but the number of races run will be restricted to 7 races.
There will be a reduction in the percentage split of stakes at Provincial, Country, and Community race meetings however the stakes will increase for all place getters and stakes for runners placed 6th to 10th will increase to $150 per starter.
The metropolitan stakes percentage split will remain the same.
