It would have been some time since Sam Torre has prepared a training treble, but on Sunday at Kellerberrin he did just that, producing a 100% winners to runners strike rate the cherry on top.
Consistent mare Torrevean Amy brought up her fifth career win in 39 starts, with the doiuble westbred four-year-old leading all the way from barrier four in race four over the 2130m trip.
They didn’t have long to wait for win number two, with Stars Of Gold flying the flag for the stable in race five with Shannon Suvaljko on board. Starting from barrier seven over the 1730m sprint trip, the pair settled three back on the pegs, with Suvaljko working his way clear down the back straight to come home the better in the run to the line, claiming the win by a 5.6m margin in 1:58:1.
Torrevean Veloce has been knocking on the door for quite a while now for his maiden win, and after accumulating over $18,000 in stakes in the lead up, the five-year-old son of former locally stood stallion Allamerican Ingot finally got his win at start 49.
American Dutchess who received a ballot from Sunday’s meeting raced the following day at Pinjarra, finishing in second placing in the fourth on the card, missing out by just 1.6m on the line, on what could have been a fairy-tale ending to Torres racing week.
Other winners on the day included two-year-old Ubeen Thunderstruck breaking through for his first win at just start three for trainer/driver Donald Harper. Bred by Allwood Stud Farm, the son of Rock N Roll World USA was purchased at the 2022 APG Yearling sales by Harpers wife Tara for $22,000, and on Sunday was able to lead all the way to win by 2.8m in 2:05:5 over the 1730m trip.
Trainer/driver Hayden Hancock took the win in race two on the card, with three-year-old Eastern Advance bringing up his first win for connections. Another APG Yearling sales graduate from the 2021 sales, purchased by John Fagg for $27,500, the lightly raced youngster confirming his short priced favouritism with a dominating win over the 2130m journey by spacing the field by 16.2m in 2:00:0.
After a successful two-year-old season last year, Our Lady Jen took top spot in race three for Jesse Moore and Trent Wheeler, with the three-year-old claiming her first win this season at her fifth start back. With four career wins now from just 15 starts, the beautifully bred filly came three wide from the back of the field with 500m to go, with a 1.2m margin on the line in 2:00:3.
Local horse Sports Central took out race seven for trainer David Goulden, giving Shannon Suvaljko his second win of three in the cart on the day. Leading all the way at $3.10 odds, the seven-year-old brought up his seventh career win from 125 starts in a winning mile rate of 2:02:6.
