Quality mare Amelia’s Jewel took an important first step towards her maiden eastern states campaign after an outstanding trial win at Lark Hill on Monday.
In her first official hit out since her heartbreaking second to Overpass in the inaugural The Quokka (1200m) last April, Amelia’s Jewel romped home comfortably.
Showing she was on track for her Melbourne debut next month, the Simon Miller-trained four-year-old sprinted home from midfield with a sharp turn of foot.
With Pat Carbery in the saddle, she ran over the top of Street Parade to score by a length, stopping the clock at 57.20 secs., the fastest 950m heat of the morning.
“He (Pat) showed her the whip and all of a sudden she went bang,” Miller told The Races WA.
“That’s what pleased me the most was the last 75m.
“Mentally she is so much sharper this time in, she’s starting to put it all together.
“She had a bit of a puff coming back in, she was a touch big, but we have another trial in two weeks’ time.
“From where we need her right now it’s perfect, everything has gone to fruition so far.”
Amelia’s Jewel will run first up in the Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on September 16 before the Stock Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley a fortnight later.
The G1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield is also planned before Miller must decide on a Cox Plate (2040m) path or the $10,000,000 Golden Eagle (1500m) in Sydney.
“They are the easy programme ones and even the Toorak,” Miller said.
“Then you figure out the Cox Plate or the Golden Eagle.
“The first two are locks and then we look at our next move after that.”
Amelia’s Jewel has seven wins and two seconds from nine starts for $2.3 million in prizemoney.
A daughter of Siyouni, she was crowned WA Racehorse Of The Year at a gala function in Perth last Saturday week.
