81 Karrakatta Plate nominations were announced today.
The Karrakatta Plate will be held at Ascot on April 20.
At $500,000 in prizemoney, it’s Perth’s richest race for two-year-olds.
Past champions include Amelia’s Jewel, Whispering Brook, Bomber Bill, Burgess Queen, Eurythmic, Easingwold and Jolly Beggar.
Easingwold progressed to win the Cox Plate and Eurythmic won the Perth Cup and Caulfield Cup.
Ascot trainer’s Dan Morton and Simon Miller top the pool with nine nominations.
Miller’s Golden Vale, unbeaten in two starts before her 10th placing in Saturday’s Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic, is amongst his team of nominees.
Miller has won four editions of the Karrakatta Plate, first run in 1900.
Neville Parnham has a strong team nominated including Onemoretwomany, a son of Tassort, who won two in a row before a credible fifth in the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic.
Luke Fernie has Big Shots nominated; the Sizzling gelding stamped his claims with victory in the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic.
Russell Stewart has three exciting nominees: Earthstorm, Gold Maker and Golden Kathleen, an impressive winner on debut.
Two interstate nominations have come from Smiley Chan with Demiquaver and Jinaisallclass for Chris Calthorpe.
