An Explosive Sprinter
Trainer Danny Morton described Scenic Blast as the perfect racehorse. He had the perfect temperament for a sprinter, being very relaxed, but when it was time to race he would switch on with instant power. Morton described it as “freakish acceleration” and this power made him exciting for riders and crowds alike.
At his first start, Scenic Blast won at Listed level. He then went on to be runner up in the Karrakatta Plate in his first preparation. At the age of three, he was taken east where he won the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield. As a four-year old he reached his peak. He won the major sprint races at Flemington: the Lightning Stakes and the Newmarket Handicap, both with spectacular finishes and he became the hero of the 2008-2009 Australian racing season.
In 2009 Morton accepted an invitation to run at Royal Ascot in England. Being a relaxed traveller, Scenic Blast settled well in the UK and in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, he won the Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes. In doing so he proved the international dominance of Australian sprinters.
Scenic Blast was named Australian Racehorse of the Year in 2009 and raced until he was a 7 year old.
He has since begun his second career as an equestrian horse after entering RWWA’s Retirement of Racehorses program, ‘Off The Track’.

When Trainer Danny Morton rode Scenic Blast for the first time he phoned part owner Elio Galante and told him, “This is a superstar”. The horse had not yet raced. Galante described the horse as having gears. “Ten of them!”
