Contrasting Fortunes For Diamond Heat Winners At Barrier Draw

6 August 2024

Diamond Classic heat winners Bettagetonpip and Copper Head Lady have emerged as big winners from the barrier draw for Friday night’s final, drawing barriers one and two respectively.

Bettagetonpip led all the way to win her heat, while Copper Head Lady came from off the speed to win her heat.

Fellow heat winner Reinette wasn’t as fortunate as the other two heat victors and will have to overcome barrier nine to win this week’s $100,000 event.

Queen Of All produced one of the more impressive performances in the heats last week, where she finished second to Bettagetonpip.

She will have to overcome a tricky draw in barrier seven to win this week’s event, which would also be her maiden win.

The Kat Warwick-trained filly finished a half-neck behind Bettagetonpip, who was a $1.22 TABtouch favourite.

That performance followed another credible runner-up performance behind Captainshavetime at Gloucester Park earlier in the month.

Warwick said there was plenty to like about her filly but would continue to get better with racing experience.

“She’s a work in progress,” Warwick told TABradio earlier today.

“We are still trying to find all the keys to fit into the lock.

“The ability is there, and she is on the improve.

“Every time she goes out she is continually getting better and better.

“If she gets the draw and the right run, I think she might have a chance for sure.”

Consistent filly Bull Shark Betty drew barrier three, while the Justin Prentice-trained Ruby Lovera and Winter Wonder have drawn barrier four and five respectively.

The Greg and Skye Bond-trained Swiftie and Kinky both finished third in their heats and will start from barrier 11 and 12 this week.

Earlier in the night, Tenzing Bromac will be looking to score his second straight Free-For-All win in the Trotsynd #WinnersWin Pace (2130m).

Exciting mare Penny Black will be looking to maintain her unbeaten start to racing under the care of trainer Michael Young in the $30,000 WASBA 4&5YO Pace (2130m).
