Exciting galloper Triple Jay has made it four straight wins in a thrilling edition of this afternoon’s Blue Spec Stakes (1650m) at Belmont.
The Dan and Ben Pearce-trained galloper claimed race leader Admiration Express in the concluding stages to score by a long-head.
Upper Limits finished a further length back in third in the race which was one of three carried over from the end of last Saturday’s card.
Unlike his previous three wins, Triple Jay settled in the second half of the field in today’s $100,000 event and dug deep over the concluding stages.
It was the five-year-old’s first time at the 1650m trip and co-trainer Ben Pearce said it was a relief to see him run the trip out strongly.
“It was a bit of a concern,” he said.
“The way it turned out, it looked like he wanted 1700.
“He did the job well.”
Pearce said Triple Jay “profiled well” for a race like the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) later this year but indicated he would go for a break after today’s win.
Triple Jay started what could be a big week for the Pearce stable, with Acromantula to start in Saturday’s Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley and Ginger Baker engaged in the Idyllic Prince Stakes (1300m) at Belmont.
