Impressive Friday night winner Cyclone Jordy looks set to be the one to beat in Friday’s Group 1 Golden Slipper, after he drew barrier one at this morning’s barrier draw.
The son of Art Major made a bold statement in his first start for trainer Gary Hall Snr last Friday, beating Como El Viento by 11.9m in 1:57.8.
Last Hard Copy and Paint The Palette, who also feature in the final field for the Golden Slipper, finished a further 11m behind Cyclone Jordy in third and fourth respectively.
The Aiden De Campo-trained pair Como El Viento and Last Hard Copy will start from barrier two and 10 respectively.
Co-trainers Greg and Skye Bond also have a strong hand to play as they search for back-to-back Golden Slippers, with Mad Monday, Belly Up and Captainshavtime in the field.
Belly Up, who won the Westbred Classic for the colts and geldings earlier this month, drew barrier five for this week’s $150,000 event.
Captainshavtime, one of two fillies in the field, looks set to have a tough task overcoming barrier nine.
The other filly Reinette, who was also a winner of the Westbred Classic, didn’t fare much better in barrier eight.
The Michael Brennan-trained Xpress Party, who was an impressive winner at Pinjarra last Monday, drew barrier 12.
Trainer Justin Prentice, who won the Golden Slipper in 2020, 2021 and 2022, has Paint The Palette engaged in this year’s edition from barrier 11.
