Westsired Fillies To Fight It Out In $30,000 Feature at Bunbury

8 November 2024

An 11-horse field assembles for Saturday nights $30,000 SKT Breaking and Pre-Training 2YO Westsired Fillies Feature and it looks to be an open contest for the fillies.

Six individual stallions standing in WA are represented by the 11 fillies, with Caribeean Blaster siring first starter Chekker for trainer/driver Dean Miller.

Qualifying at Pinjarra on October 30, Chekker won her trial in a mile rate of 2:04:5 and will start from barrier one in not only her first race, but first feature.

“She goes pretty good, hopefully she can win a couple of races for her owner.” Dean Milller said.

Caribbean Blaster sires two fillies in the field, with three start maiden Lyca Fantasy looking to break through for her first win.

Bred by Global Breeding Farms, Wayne and Helen Price jumped at the opportunity to buy the then weanling out of My Mississippi Rose NZ, who is a half-sister to Independence Rose due to their history with the mare and the education they had performed.

Lyca Fantasy made her debut on August 5, running second at just her second attempt at Narrogin on August 10 when she was beaten just 3.3m and ran a last start sixth at Gloucester Park when she resumed after a short let up.

Lyca Fantasy starts from barrier nine for trainer/driver Wayne Price.

The Wagin stood Shoobees Place has two runners in the $30,000 Westsired Fillies Feature, with Shoobees Double looking to break her maiden status for Bunbury based trainer Simone Strachan, starting from barrier three.

Purchased at the 2023 APG Yearling Sales, the big filly has had 11 starts now, finishing second behind stablemate Highview Heidi at Gloucester Park at just her third start back in March and finished fourth last start at Northam behind Fly She Can who starts from barrier four.

“I’m hoping she won’t be too far away, she’s working well and her run at Northam was full fo merit, so with normal racing luck she shouldn’t be too far away.

“Hopefully her size scares them off.” Strachan joked.

Bred by Kevin Spurr, Shes All Go was purchased by Tracey Reed and although awkwardly drawn in barrier six, she also looks to break her maiden status in the feature for the fillies.

Having raced 14 times now, she’s the most experienced of the field, finishing in second place in her heat of the 2YO Fillies Westbred Classic heats, beaten 14.9m in 1:57:7 by impressive westsired filly Iseeubaby.

John Graham has his other Wesley filly engaged on Saturday night in the feature, with Viciously Unkind making her racing debut.

After qualifying to race back in early February this year, she hasn’t been seen since, but she starts from barrier eight on Saturday night for the Bunbury based stable.

Wesley has the two runners, with Wesmedad returning to racing after going out for a spell in March.

Trained by Sarah Wall, the half-sister to Tanaka Eagle has had just the three starts now and starts from barrier five in the fifth event on the card.

Fly She Can is the only horse to have won in this field after claiming her maiden win at just her first start last week at Northam for trainer Peter Anderson.

Trent Wheeler drives the daughter of Fly Like An Eagle, with the pair starting from barrier four in the feature.

Fly Like An Eagle also produced Three Flames for trainer/driver Aiden De Campo, with the filly having just her second start in a race on Saturday night after finishing 91.4m behind the winner at Pinjarra on Monday November 4.

Advance Attack sired two runners in the race, with Hope Prevails having just her second race start for trainer Daryl Miller in barrier 11, and Girl Of Brightness drawn alongside her in barrier 12 fro local trainer Bob Mellsop.

Girl Of Brightness will be looking to go one beter on last weeks run after finishing in second place at Collie on November 3, with the filly finishing in the placings three of her four attempts.

The Bruce Lovett bred, owned and trained Allizee is by their own stallion The Bantam, who was a winner of 10 races from 121 starts.

The Bantam has produced just six live foals for one winner, with Sir Nicholas surpassing his dads win record with 11 wins from 188 starts and stakes in excess of $102,000.

Lovett will be looking to make it two winners from his sire, with Allizee just 11 starts into her career, finishing in third in a metropolitan 2YO fillies' race back in late April.

The $30,000 SKT Breaking and Pre-training 2YO Westsired Fillies Feature jumps at 8.02pm WST.
