Racing WA and Variety spread Christmas cheer in the Mid West

10 December 2024

Kids in the Mid West got some extra holiday cheer when Variety WA hosted their annual family Christmas party in Geraldton.

Supported by a $5000 grant from the Racing WA Community Fund, the event provided a festive experience for more than 250 children who are ill, disadvantaged, or have special needs, along with their families.

The celebration created a carnival atmosphere, offering a range of activities and entertainment including pony rides, a petting zoo, mini golf and outdoor games. Each child also received a personalised gift from Santa to take home.

Variety Midwest regional coordinator Jan Ajduk said the annual party gives families the chance to celebrate the holiday stress-free.

“It was an action-filled morning gifted to families who face challenges daily,” Jan said.

“The support from the Racing WA Community Fund allowed us to make the event even more special for local families and we cannot thank them enough.”

Racing and Wagering Western Australia CEO Ian Edwards said he was thrilled to support such a meaningful initiative.

“I'm very pleased to see the first Racing WA Community Fund grant go to such a worthy cause,” Ian said.

“We’re proud to add some Christmas cheer alongside Variety and make a tangible contribution to the Mid West community.

“With the event also taking place at the local race club, this is a great example of how racing connects people in regional communities.”

The annual Christmas party took place on 30 November at the Geraldton Turf Club.
