Canya All Class has been locked in as the first greyhound to compete in the $600,000 The Sandgroper, part of the TABtouch Western Trilogy tri-code slot race series.
Slot holders MintBet will pair up with the Group 1 winning chaser at TABtouch Park Cannington on 24 April in the 520m dash, marking the opening leg of the iconic series.
Trained by Jessica Hopkins, Canya All Class is set to compete in the $300,000 Australian Cup at the Meadows this weekend and hopes to continue his form into WA.
Owner Corey Smith has attended the first two instalments of The Sandgroper and said he can’t wait to be on course again this year to watch his chaser compete with the best.
“We’re all absolutely thrilled to be a part of The Sandgroper. Canya All Class is a great dog and we can’t wait to watch him go round in the big race,” Corey said.
After becoming first entry into the lucrative slot race through MintBet the ownership group is looking forward to seeing what their dog can produce.
“When MintBet approached us this year it was a no-brainer, after competing in some big races, and with his added experience we’re really excited,” he said.
Based in Victoria, Canya All Class looks to emulate the achievement of last year’s hometown hero in Hector Fawley who won the 2024 The Sandgroper for the East Coast raiders.
With 17 wins under his belt, Canya All Class sets the standard early for the quality of dogs that is known to be expected at Cannington for the annual slot-holder race.
“It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the field shapes out, but Canya All Class is a very good dog so I’m sure he’ll stack up,” Corey said.
