Alsephina Autumn Campaign Over

21 March 2025

Star mare Alsephina’s Sydney autumn campaign has come to a premature end, following a disappointing performance in last week’s Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill.

Alsephina was beaten almost six lengths when finishing ninth to Lady Shenandoah in last week’s Group 1 event.

It was just the fourth time in 21 starts the six-year-old missed a top three placing.

It followed an unlucky ninth in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick earlier this month.

Co-trainer Grant Williams said he wouldn’t press on with the campaign.

“We got some bloods done,” Williams told TABradio.

“She’s been a bit unders this time, but she wasn’t herself over there.

“She had a bit of a virus, so we have put her away and we will decide what to do with her.”

In better news, Williams indicated Alsephina’s star stablemates Western Empire and Storyville were on track for their respective targets the Kia-Quokka (1200m) and Belmont Guineas (1600m).
