Sport Back To Make Nullarbor Statement

2 April 2025

Talented pacer Gee Heza Sport will look to strengthen his grip on Team Bond’s Nullarbor slot, when he makes his return in Friday’s The Nullarbor – Road To Riches Pace (2130m) at Gloucester Park.

The seven-year-old made his presence felt in his first campaign for co-trainers Greg and Skye Bond, winning four of his five starts.

His most significant win came in the Don Randall Memorial (2631m) at Pinjarra, where he scored a dominant win in 1:55.6.

He was then turned out for a spell following three subsequent wins at Gloucester Park.

Gee Heza Sport is set to get a good test on where he’s at in Friday’s Free-For-All event, where he has drawn barrier nine.

Greg Bond said he was confident the son of Sportswriter would acquit himself well.

“You’ll see a pretty good version of him on Friday night,” Bond told TABradio.

“We probably had him ready to go two or three weeks ago.

“He sprung a shoe and got a nail into his hoof.

“I just had to cool my heels for a couple of weeks.

“His work last Friday was really good.”

In a further boost to Gee Heza Sport’s chances on Friday, stable driver Deni Roberts has elected to drive him from barrier nine over star mare and stablemate Aardiebytheseaside from barrier three.

The $30,000 event also features last start Mount Eden Sprint winner Sangue Reale.

The Bond stable will have two runners in this year’s Nullarbor, after Minstrel was unveiled in the Ladbrokes slot last week.

Tenzing Bromac, Mighty Conqueror and Justcallmemiki are among other options to fill the Team Bond slot, should they decide against selecting Gee Heza Sport.

Bond said they would wait before committing to a runner.

“Probably Gee Heza Sport is the horse we will go with at this point in time,” he said.

“We don’t need to make that decision until the weekend prior to the race.

“I’m a little bit tempered on Justcallmemiki.

“Going into a Nullarbor will be a big step up against those horses for him.”

Meanwhile, star mares Water Lou and Penny Black are set for an enthralling clash in the Race For Roses (2503m) on Friday,

The pair will start off 30m in the standing start event, as they look to record another feature win.
