Upgrades boost safety and atmosphere at Harvey Show

1 May 2025

The popular Horses in Action event at the annual Harvey Agricultural Show proved to be one of the highlights of this year’s show, welcoming more than 70 enthusiastic competitors from across the region.

This year, the horse arenas underwent important upgrades, with new bollards and bunting installed to improve safety and create a more welcoming environment for riders, horses and spectators.

The improvements also included a new central viewing strip, allowing spectators to get closer to the action while maintaining clear and safe boundaries.

The enhancements were funded by a Racing WA Community Fund grant, which Show volunteer and event Steward Steph Newman applied for.

“The new set-up made a real difference to the event,” Steph said.

"The arenas were safer, better defined and much easier for competitors and the public to navigate — especially families with young children and prams.

“Rider feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many noting the upgrades added to the quality and enjoyment of the event.  I think the changes will help us grow participation and crowd numbers even more in the years to come.”

Racing WA Chief Racing Officer David Hunter said the Horses in Action event was a great example of how small but targeted improvements could make a real difference.

“The South West has a large and passionate equestrian community, and it’s fantastic to see events like this providing opportunities for horses and riders to showcase their skills,” David said.

“We were proud to support this year’s event through a Community Fund grant, helping to enhance safety and improve the overall experience for competitors, horses and spectators.”
