Racing WA Community Fund helps provide boost to RSL Albany

The RSL Albany Sub-Branch has welcomed a much-needed upgrade to its kitchen facilities, installing a new commercial-grade dishwasher and refreshing its catering supplies to better support the growing needs of its members and community.

The improvements were made possible thanks to a grant from the Racing WA Community Fund, helping the volunteer-run organisation continue hosting regular events for Defence and ex-Defence members, their families and the wider Great Southern community.

PR Officer and Management Committee Member for the Albany Sub-Branch Nicole Edmonds said the new dishwasher, with new plates, bowls and essential kitchen items, would make a meaningful difference.

“With the help of the Racing WA grant, we’ve been able to replace our ageing dishwasher and upgrade our catering equipment, making it easier to deliver our regular functions and events held by our busy volunteers at the Albany RSL,” Nicole said.

“These gatherings are an important way for veterans, families and the wider community to stay connected, and having reliable equipment behind the scenes helps us create a welcoming space for everyone who walks through our doors.”

Racing and Wagering Western Australia Chief Executive Officer Ian Edwards said supporting the RSL Albany Sub-Branch was an opportunity to recognise the important role veterans play in the community.

“The RSL Albany Sub-Branch plays a vital role in supporting veterans and families across the Great Southern region and we’re proud to help them continue that important work,” Ian said. “There are strong and longstanding connections between the veteran community and the local racing industry in Albany, and it’s fantastic to see that spirit of support continuing today.”

The kitchen improvements will be put straight to use at upcoming events, including the Batons and Bayonets Sundowner on June 27.
