Ryan Bell had mixed emotions when he tuned into Monday’s barrier draw on TABradio, with the Baskerville stable preparing multiple runners for the features on Friday night at Gloucester Park.
Lazi Dais came up with the goods in the 3YO C&G Westbred Classic, drawing barrier one in the $100,000 feature after finishing second in his heat on Monday, August 25 at Pinjarra.
“He needed the hit out in the heats and has thrived since.
“Gets his chance to prove himself.” Bell said
Bell has Control The Room and Wicked Hustler starting from barriers 6 and 11 in the feature, with the draws seeing them place chances at best.
“The draws are very detrimental to their winning chances, but both their heat runs were very good and would not surprise me if they filled a placing with luck.”
The Michael Young runner Ice Cold Sapporo draws just outside Lazi Dais in barrier two, but his comments won’t leave punters overly confident.
“He is a funny horse, his best and worst are very close together, but his best sees him competitive here.” Young said
Ice Cold Sapporo finished in third placing in his heat behind Elite Fleet and Belly Up, 11.4m behind the winner.
Last Hard Copy has been impressive this preparation for trainer Aiden De Campo and he comes up with barrier five this Friday night.
A winner of five races this season, including a win in the 3YO Westsired Pace back in July, he will have to overcome the awkward draw, but he has the ability to do so.
“He was super in his heat run, and will improve off it, he does have an awkward draw but he has a few strings to his bow.” De Campo said

The Bell stable were gutted with barrier 8 for Copper Head Lady in the 3YO Fillies Westbred Classic Final, with Bell stating that she is working sensational, but the barrier draw was devastating.
“Her draw is horrid, when listening to the radio, it felt like a knife in the guts.
“She is working the place down at home, her two runs back have been very good especially her heat run, but it’s all irrelevant now from the draw against some good quality fillies with much better barriers.
“We will be relying on the race being run upside down.”
WA Country Oaks winner Its Maa Time finished in second place in her heat on Monday, August 25, just a head from winner Our Rich Cargo.
“She has a decent draw, we will work forward and should fight the finish.”
