Regional communities gained valuable road safety lessons at this year’s Dowerin Field Days, with TRANSAFE WA delivering its award-winning iNSTRUCKTA! Program to thousands of attendees.
Supported by a $5000 grant from the Racing WA Community Fund, the interactive program educates current and future drivers about safely sharing the road with trucks.
Held over two days on 27 and 28 August, the Dowerin Field Days attracted more than 25,000 people from across Western Australia.
Inside iNSTRUCKTA!’s custom-built trailer, participants experienced virtual reality simulations, interactive learning stations and guided activities that highlighted blind spots, safe overtaking distances and stopping times for heavy vehicles.
TRANSAFE WA Executive Officer Rob Sharpe said the opportunity to bring iNSTRUCKTA! to such a large regional audience was invaluable.
“Dowerin Field Days is a perfect setting to connect with regional communities, young drivers and families,” Rob said.
“iNSTRUCKTA! is about changing behaviours and saving lives and the support from the Racing WA Community Fund helped us bring that important message to thousands of people.”
Racing and Wagering Western Australia CEO Ian Edwards praised the initiative for its impact on community safety, including for those in the racing industry who travel with horses.
“Race clubs are at the heart of their regions and the Community Fund program enables us to extend that community spirit by supporting initiatives that make a difference,” Ian said.
“Road safety is especially important for many in our industry who travel with their horses. TRANSAFE WA’s iNSTRUCTA! program is an impactful way of addressing road safety, and we are pleased our contribution allowed them to expand their reach at the Dowerin Fields Days.”
