Geraldton Turf Club’s $1.3 million irrigation replacement project, supported by the State Government’s $25.2 million Regional Racing Infrastructure Fund, has been completed.
The club’s outdated irrigation system, which had burst multiple times last season, was fully replaced as part of the project in readiness for the start of the 2025-26 racing season today.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia Chief Racing Officer David Hunter said the completion of the project was a significant and timely boost for the Geraldton racing community.
“Reliable irrigation is critical to maintaining a safe and high-quality racing surface,” he said.
“The new system will not only help safeguard race meetings from disruption but also support the long-term sustainability of racing in Geraldton.
“We are proud to work in partnership with the State Government and regional clubs to ensure our facilities continue to meet the needs of participants and the broader community.”
Sandra Carr MLC said the Regional Racing Infrastructure Fund supported regional communities from both a social and economic standpoint.
“I'm pleased to share that the irrigation project at Geraldton Turf Club was completed in time for the upcoming racing season,” she said.
“The State Government’s $25.2 million investment in regional racing will enable a wide range of infrastructure upgrades at race clubs across Western Australia.
“Race days in Geraldton bring the community together and deliver significant economic benefits to our region.
“It’s all about backing local events and keeping regional WA thriving.”
