Matt Scott reigned supreme once again in the King Cole Cup when he secured his ninth victory in the race, further cementing that he is indeed the King of the King Cole Cups, with Feeling Aces taking it out for 2025.
Matt Scott went into the race with two live hopes, and his pair managed a fairy tale result, with Scott getting the quinella in the $8000 feature, which saw stablemate Gee Smith finishing just a half-neck margin off of Feeling Aces.
“I don’t really target the race, but it’s just the way it seems to work out.
“Over the years I’ve had plenty of horses that suit racing at Collie, there just seems to be a race for all types.” Matt Scott said
Scott had to enjoy watching the victory via Sky Racing this weekend, with his annual Kalgoorlie Racing getaway scheduled for the same weekend, it didn’t make the win any less special, and although it could be argued that he is now the new King of Collie, he’s adamant that title still remains with Trent Wheeler.
Feeling Aces was purchased by Scott and his group of owners for a modest $5000 back in February 2023 and has since had 103 starts for the stable for 12 wins, including the Williams Cup at just his third start for Scott, as well as finishing second in both the Northam and Narrogin cups in 2024.
In June this year, the now eight-year-old claimed a metropolitan win at Gloucester Park, with the $5000 bargain buy now amassing in excess of $141,000 for Scott and connections.
Driven by Shannon Suvaljko, who has taken out plenty of driving premierships around the Collie Circuit, Suvaljko enjoyed a driving double on the day, with No Messing About getting the win in race two on the card for trainer Peter Anderson.
Emily Suvaljko couldn’t let her dad get all the glory on the day, with the 24-year-old also driving a double at the opening meet at Collie.
Newcomer to the Michael Young stable, Hurricanehope, made it two in a row just three starts into her career with the budding stable, claiming race four on the card.
The four-year-old finished just 1.4m ahead of stablemate and also recent acquisition Hes Thunder, who has finished in second placing at his last two attempts.
Suvaljko was on board The Ultimate Beach in race seven for trainer Tracy Reay, with the four-year-old gelding going back-to-back for the duo.
Doubles was the theme of the day and Lauren Harper enjoyed her slice of the pie after taking out race three on board Hughey for Michael Vlemmix and then making her way back into the winners circle in race five on board the Michele Charman trained Ashanti Princess.
Favourite punters rejoiced in the first with the $1.45 Streets Of Stocktn taking out race one for Giles Inwood and Corey Peterson.
The two-year-old daughter of Fly Like An Eagle was bred by Giles and his late mum, Jennifer Inwood, winning impressively in the opener to claim her maiden victory at just start five.
The Collie season is full steam ahead, with the second meeting of their four-part series getting underway on Sunday, October 12.
