Racing and Wagering Western Australia stewards have been advised by the Chem Centre in Perth that metformin was detected in the sample taken from Pop’s Gift, trained by J Vuletich, following it competing and finishing first in Race 4 at Cannington on 30 April 2023.
These findings have been verified by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (NSW).
Accordingly, the stewards will inquire into these reports on Monday, 30 October 2023.
Metformin is classified as an oral anti-hyperglycaemic medication, indicated for use in the management of diabetes in humans.
In view of the circumstances of this matter and nature of the substance detected, acting under the provisions of Greyhound Rule of Racing 169 (5)(c), stewards have directed Mr Vuletich’s licence to train be suspended forthwith pending the outcome of the stewards’ inquiry to the extent that he is not permitted to nominate or present greyhounds to race.
