Greyhound stewards’ inquiry – Trainer Keith Batty (Emotional Damage)

24 September 2024

Racing WA stewards have been advised by the Chem Centre in Perth that metformin has been detected in the sample taken from EMOTIONAL DAMAGE (trained by Mr. Keith Batty) following it competing in and winning Race 1 at Mandurah on 28 July 2024.

These findings have been verified by the Racing Analytical Services Ltd (Vic).

Accordingly, the Stewards will inquire into these reports on Monday 7 October 2024.

Metformin is classified as an oral anti-hyperglycaemic medication, indicated for use in the management of diabetes in humans.

In view of the circumstances of this matter and nature of the substance detected, acting under the provisions of Greyhound Rule of Racing 169 (5), Stewards have directed that Mr Batty’s licence to train be suspended forthwith pending the outcome of the Stewards inquiry. Further no greyhound owned (or part owned) by him will be permitted to compete in or be nominated for an event.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE will also not be permitted to compete in any event pending outcome of this inquiry and until a sample taken from it is free of any permanently banned substance.
