Westbred incentive scheme
The Westbred bonus scheme was developed to support and reward the breeders and owners of Western Australian bred horses.
By breeding and racing a Westbred horse, breeders & owners can earn bonuses above the normal advertised race stake. Bonuses apply to 2yo & 3yo races for placegetters 1st – 4th where the advertised race stake is $21,999 or less.
A horse winning its first race at 4yo or older will receive the Westbred bonus on its first win where the advertised race stake is $21,999 or less.
A Westbred horse is defined as a horse that is born, notified, registered and branded in Western Australia. Satisfying these conditions allows the horse to be eligible to receive Westbred payments.
In addition to Westbred payments, in 2014 the Double WestBred Incentive Scheme was launched. To be eligible for the Double Westbred Scheme a horse must satisfy the Westbed conditions (that being the horse must born, registered, notified and branded in WA) and also they must be sired by a stallion registered and standing in Western Australia at the time of service.
For trainers and drivers of Westbred horses who place 1st – 3rd in a race where the Westbred bonus applies, they will receive 7.5% for trainers and 5% for drivers of the bonus amounts for place getters 1st – 3rd, with the winner receiving 87.5% of the bonus amount. If a Westbred eligible horse places 4th in a race where the Westbred bonus applies, the owner receives 100% of the bonus payment.
A winner of a race being Double Westbred eligible will result in the owner and breeder receiving double the Westbred payment for the win. Double Westbred payments do not apply to placegetters 2nd – 4th.
Breeders of an eligible WestBred eligible horse foaled after 1st September 2011 will be paid an amount equal to 12.5% of any Westbred owner bonus paid on any 2yo or 3yo races. These amounts are above the WestBred bonus and are not subject to any trainer and/or driver percentages.
